Could it be a override switch for the parking brake? Try pulling the dash bezel and the switch and follow where the wires go?

The trim bezel that surrounds the cluster, head unit, etc. That just pops off. Then, that "panel/block" it is mounted in is held in with clips and I believe they are on the top and bottom of the "block". use a very small flathead screwdriver to release the clips and gently wiggle it loose. Pull it out far enough to see the wiring to the switch and begin following it there.

The trim pieces and so forth aren't hard to remove and replace, etc. When you remove the trim bezel, make sure to have your parking brake on, key on, tranny in low and steering wheel tilted all the way down to get it off.

Nope, on that block the retainer clips are on the sides.

How would I try to play a dvd? Does the stock Nav unit play dvd's while in park? Is there some sequence I should try out?

You have to press and hold in your foot brake press the parking brake in AND release it three times finally leaving it pressed to the floor and let off the foot brake. That's how mine was. If that doesn't work try pressing the foot brake and flipping that switch off then back on and let off the foot brake.

The stock GMT800 Nav radios cannot natively play DVD movie discs; you can get video to display on the stock nav screen if you connect an aftermarket video adapter to the nav radio, but the OEM nav radio itself that's in your '05 Denali cannot read and play a DVD movie disc--it can properly read and play only CD audio discs (not discs that contain MP3 files on it) or the nav DVD disc--nothing else.

Just pull your dash bezel out and follow the wires. Most likely something simple that has since been disconnected, but definitely worth investigating.

WELCOME!!
