So I bit the bullet and bought a 2004 Suburban LT AWD with 176k miles. I've been shopping around since November and it's been slim pickings here in Chicago for a decent one. I LOVE it! My kids love it even more.

Since it was a dealer purchased vehicle, should I change plugs/wires, o2 sensors and fuel filter? The truck runs great given the high mileage but was wondering if I should do it anyway since my mpgs seem low compared to what other people get on here. My city is around 9.8 while my highway is like 14.5. I already drove it for one tankful and these are the results I came up with. I knew mileage would be bad regardless since these trucks are hogs so I knew what I was getting into. I just want my truck to run as best as it can. The truck already came with a K&N filter btw. (no CAI).

Congrats and :welcome:

Let's see some pictures! I'd go ahead and change the fuel filter, plugs/wires, 02 sensors just to be safe. Won't hurt anything and will ensure that it won't have to be taken care of in the near future. Probably wouldn't hurt to clean the K&N air filter and the MAF.

I would run some sea foam through the brake booster or intake clean the throttle body and MAF, run sea foam though the tank. Change fuel filter , plugs and wires, check the charge on the A/C system, change rear diff fluid, and prob leave the tranny alone! Get the air raid Jr. Tube, does it still have the stock cats that came on it? You can probably clean the filter too. IDK on the O2 sensors.

Congrats on the suburban!

Welcome.

I wouldn't change O2 sensors if they are working. If one fails, the check engine light will be triggered. Save the money for something else you need.

Also, make sure all the bulbs are working in the dash and switches.

Yes to plugs/wires/fuel filter. Do you access to real time OBD data? You can check fuel trims and get a hint from that whether to change O2 sensors. There have been reports that cheap aftermarket O2 sensors fail quickly, so consider OEM, but they are pricey. Change out all the fluids (diffs, transfer case, etc) unless the dealer already did that. change the tranny fluid too. There's alot of posts around as to why or why not in regards to "flushing" tranny fluid based on prior service, but ,most people seem to agree that if it has NOT been serviced regularly, flushing can cause problems. Flushing is not the same as just changing fluid in the tranny though. And as others said, clean the MAF/throttle body...cheap & easy. UNfortunately, depending on your driving environment, less than 10 mpg may be it for city type driving.

Congrats! OUr Yukon is my kids' favorite ride too!

BTW, saw you are in Chicago...get under the vehicle and watch for rust!

Thanks for the info guys! I'll look into changing fluids along with plug/wires. When the truck is on I do notice a little tremble every now and again. Hopefully plug/wires solves that issue. As far as rust, it is almost inevitable here in chicago. The truck already has a small rust bubble by the push button on the tailgate. I'm gonna have to fix that soon before the paint peels off.
