Hey y''all looking at buying a 00-04 Yukon XL or Suburban and just trying to get opinions. I've owned an 03 tahoe before and loved it but ended up selling it after an electrical fire and the dealer not fixing it correctly causing numerous problems.
Anyway I know a little about these years but not a lot and when I had the tahoe it only had 40k on the clock and the 02 yukon XL i'm going to look at today has 159K.
I'm not sure what to ask has been replaced after those many miles. I know they can run forever because what I've seen on craigslist and still running as well as my father in laws yukon xl having over 200k and only major repair was something in the transmission costing $800.
This yukon xl appears to be in great condition with supposedly no engine/tranny work. He's asking $5k for it so I think it's pretty fair.
I'd just like to know what to ask and look for when I go see it

Thanks

Me personally I'm not very familiar with the NBS Yukon XLs and Suburbans personally but I've noticed here in Kansas that they are considerably cheaper than the Yukons and Tahoes for the fact of the added 21 inches of body length. The LS engines go forever with general maintenance and if wanting to replace em they are very common at salvage yards. I read that 2002+ is when those models were updated and nicer. Dependending on the driving habits of the previous owner with towing and etc. I'd say transmission r&r will be the main thing that would be required soon but others may chime in. Some of the dealers here can run the VIN for dealer logged service records if that will help with maintenance history.

We have both a 2001 Tahoe with almost 2000K on the clock and a 2002 with 150K no issues except owner / Operator on mine lol. And I / we are looking at a 2002 2500 Sububran LT4X4 right now.

Common issues at this mileage or prior are:

Water pump (just did mine this weekend)
Fuel pump
Idler and pitman arms
Tie rods (some last longer)
HVAC issues if it has automatic climate control

Other than that, these rigs are pretty solid.

Good luck shopping. Continue to ask away and post some pictures of this rig.

Well so far at the ones I've looked at they are complete turds. Smoked in, leather ripped and cracked, and one guy said it had new carpet but he didn't state he had a carpet kit for it. I can do the kite but damn warn me before looking at that crap. Anyway here are the links to the two I'm pretty settle on.
This 2002 2500 is freaking clean and a monster. I hit it from a dead stop and it spun the tires for a good 5 seconds without moving lol. Dealer wants $8K out the door so he pretty much has given me nothing. http://lubbock.craigslist.org/ctd/4281086824.html

This 2003 1500 looks clean as hell too but I'm having to drive an hour and half to meet up and see it. I hope it is as clean as it looks. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...00&searchRadius=300&listingId=363649896&Log=0

Anyway what do y'all think?

I paid $9400 cash for my 04 Yukon xl with 72,000 miles. It has a bleach stain in the cargo area, still need to replace it lol. And some scratches on the driver door handle. Other than that it looked brand new. 1 owner all dealership maintenance. But im in dfw and had to drive a hour west to Mineral Wells to get it. Just trying to give you an idea. Then again this was almost 2 years ago as well. It was the best deal I could find at the time. I haven't looked in a while though so prices may have changed.

Check out Texas Direct Auto on Ebay

Bought an '07 Suburban from Texas Direct a couple of years ago, sold it in the mean time.

NOT impressed with them AT ALL. While making the deal with them they were all accommodating, friendly and a$$ kissy, ................ until I had paid for the truck. Then they were practically not communicating at all with me.

Once the Burb arrived, it had bulbs that were out and therefore a DRL was not working as well as a turnsignal, airbag light was on as soon as the truck came off the transporter. Truck needed a new oil pan gasket as it leaked like a siff, the driver seat did not move up and down, tires were pretty much shot and it had a different set on the front vs. the rear, it also needed bushings on the crossbar as it sounded horrible every time I hit a pump.

So, basically they sold me a piece of sh*t and NEVER disclosed any of the issues. I had them all addressed and fixed before I sold it. The only thing they did reimburse me for was the air bag light as it is in Texas suppossedly against the law to sell a vehicle with it on. They never accomodated me for my time I spent taking the truck to the dealer and the day I was without a veicle because of it.

I say NO to TEXAS DIRECT, unless you can go there in person and see, touch and drive what you may bay.

HOWEVER, ....................... BE AWARE!!!!!!!

Based on what I can see in the pictures, my vote goes to the Suburban. Looks cleaner, cheaper price and less miles. Not diggin' the worn down seat in the Yuk XL.

Furthermore, I believe one can haggle a bit more with a Private Party and one can possibly safe a bit on sales tax. ;-)

However, the Yuk has the bigger engine and I am not sure if you need to tow with this rig?
