Oooo, 285's? How are your roads?

They are good for the most part... not like up north where you guys get all the snow, ice, and salt... really messes up your roads.

The 285/45/22 is the stock size on the Escalade... I just went with the 285/40/22 instead... it's about a 1/2" shorter sidewall than the 45 series.

And about 1.5" shorter sidewall than my 275/55/20 that are currently on the truck.

275/55/20 = 6" sidewall

285/45/22 = 5" sidewall

285/40/22 = 4.5" sidewall

So confusing to me. Probably gonna put my 22's on this weekend if I get a chance.

The width is in mm (275,305, etc) the aspect ratio (sidewall) is a percentage of the width. So a 285/45 is 285 mm wide and the sidewall is 45% of 285 mm (128.25 mm). A 285/40 is still 285 mm wide, but the sidewall is only 40% of 285 (114 mm).

So my 305 40 22 is the same sidewall as yours, just wider?

Think like this tony

1st number/2nd number/3rd number
Tire width /tire height /rim size
285 /40 /22

Bigger 1st#=wider
Bigger 2nd#=taller

Yes, and the sidewall is deeper, since it’s 40% of 305, rather than 40% of 285
Mm hmm, mm hmm--Well would'cha look at that?! Just look at that! Look at it!?
