how do you like the kenwood interface? does it have nav? does it show what street you are on anywhere on the screen when you are not specifically in nav, like listening to the radio?

Yes it has Garmin navigation which is one of the main reasons I chose this unit. I am a big fan of Garmin as I am used to using them. It also has android auto so you can use Google maps if you choose to.

Yes it shows what street you are approaching at the bottom of the screen when you are in any other screen besides navigation.

That would drive me bonkers, normally they should have some lip edge, as far as I know or have ever had them, personal preference I guess

What size is your screen?

The reason I ask is because this Kenwood is a 6.8" screen which, from what the stereo shops tell me, is why it fits the dash kit the way it does.

nice, does it have a "save" feature to save your audio settings if the battery is disconnected, i'm curious I may get a kenwood next time around, I'm waiting for either one to finally start using blu ray not that it really matters but dvd is getting pretty old school for new model aftermarket decks.

I'm not sure about the "save" feature but I think so because during the course of installing it I unplugged it several times and it would always start back playing the same station as before I unplugged it.

Well I got the Kenwood installed.

I guess the Metra dash kit "fits" the Kenwood and it was partially my misunderstanding the directions. The pics make it look like the stereo has to slide into the dash kit from the front, which it would not do. In reality the radio slides in from the back which leaves it sitting too far back in my opinion, which I why I said it didn't fit because it just looks wrong to me.

I searched a few different places and all the dash kits make the HU recessed which I did not like... so I ended up modifying mine as follows...

Before/unmodified...

You can see how it's set back... I did not like the way it looked.

So I trimmed the back side of the dash kit to make the stereo sit flush with the dash kit.

After/modified...

This is the way it should have fit right out of the box in my opinion.

Anyway, it's all in and working beautifully. Now I just have to get used to the new interface and where all the stuff is in the different menus and what not... mainly the whatnot... lol

That must be a Kenwood thing. Both the Pioneers I just installed didn’t have anything that would keep the HU from sliding back flush, and there were multiple threaded spots for the attaching screws to go into so the kit ends up flush. I’m surprised the Kenwood wasn’t the same. Anyway, glad you got it in. I spent all day installing compressors so we both should get attaboys lol.

Looks great! Agree that I would prefer it to be either flush, or even slightly protruding.
