2003 yukon xl. the key fob only works when you get close to the car, and ONLY SOMETIMES. i replaced the battery, and cleaned the contacts on the buttons. i relearned the fob to the vehicle, and it still doesnt work. Does the fob need to be replaced? I was wondering where the car picks up the signal to see if theres something in the way maybe?

Also, I was planning on having a remote start put in soon. Should I not waste the money and just have that be my new key fob? Does $350 sound like a good price with install?

Thats a Good question, Anytime my distance has gone a away I just replace the battery and it works for a while. I also have a remote start laying around that I need to get around to installing...

As for $350, it really depends on which remote start your getting, and if its a reliable shop. You dont want to cheap out on who is cutting ignition wires in your truck lol.

My 03 Tahoe starting behaving exactly that way last year. I first replaced fob battery and it did not help, then bought a new fob and that didn't help either. I suspect it is the receiver in the vehicle going bad instead of the fob transmitter...

Do you all know where this is located? When they install a new remote start, will it use the factory transmitter?

No, your aftermarket alarm will "talk" to the factory alarm via interface. You should be fine. And you will gain the range of the aftermarket alarm.

Thats pretty steep for that alarm, Viper makes a great product, but I bought a 2way paging Autopage for less than that, and the interface is about $50 online. I will be installing it myself, its been on a shelf for about a year now lol.

I would be leary of letting best buy do a remote start. They dont usually hire the best techs, and usually all they do each day is Ipod integration and maybe some cd players, not much for alarms or custom audio. Now The exception is if you know the installer, I have a buddy who works at best buy who actually knows what he is doing, and does it all right.

When I worked at Fry's Electronics as an installer, most of our time was correcting other shops work. So be careful who you let install it.
