Ok I've searched videos and Google and I can't find the proper way to remove the oil pump in my 08 Yukon Denali. It's AWD and has the L92 I have the timing cover off and the bolts out of the pump but it won't come forward off the crank. I've read that some drop the oil pan but with the AWD how much of a nightmare will this be? Do I need to raise the engine? I'd appreciate tips and maybe a hack or two lol. Kinda newish to these engines. Thanks in advance.

Drop the front diff down, you will have to remove one of the lower shock bolts on each side and just let the diff drop down and rest on the axle shafts. The oil pan will slide out. When I worked at a dealership, a co worker and I used to do that, and also replace pistons while the engine was in the vehicle.

Did you unbolt the pickup tube from the oil pump?

Take bolts completely put of passenger side front diff mount, loosen up driver side a bit but leave hanging on them should be able to slide pan out. With underr engine cross brace and front sway bar out.

Dont forget to dab rtv on the corners where pan meets front and rear covers

Is there any need to raise the truck or can I do this with the truck on the ground? Also what do you mean the front and rear covers? Like the edges of the pan where it meets the block?

if you have enough room to work should be no need to.

you'll have a corner where the 3 meet; pan, front cover, block....you need a bit of rtv to keep it from leaking. it is the same for the rear corner where the 3 meet you need rtv

I pulled the oil pump on my L92 without dropping the pan, but it was a total PITA. The challenge is removing the bolt from the pickup tube. Only 1 of my 4 wrenches would fit on the bolt to break it loose. Then it took at least 30 minutes to very slowly work that bolt out an 1/8th a turn at a time using my finger and a flat head screwdriver to turn it. Although I did also have the front of my Yukon blown apart with the radiator and AC removed when I did this. That is probably not necessary, but it gives you a much better view and working position.
