Large motor oil overfill

I was looking over my sister's 2005 5.3L Tahoe because it gave her a problem one day and she hasn't driven it since. The oil level reading on the dipstick was easily 4 times higher than the max fill mark.

Can this cause any problems?

I'd say yes. Too much oil is just as bad as not enough. Just for starters it could cause your seals to leak. Drain out the extra oil.

I’d be extremely cautious, worried. Who did the last oil change and if there is double the amount of oil in the engine then what fluid was drained from the truck? Where’s the tranny fluid level at? Etc.

Agreed I’d drain all of it. Sounds like someone went to change it and forgot to drain first. Agreed on tranny fluid check

What does the oil look like??? (Black, tan/milky)

Does it smell like gas???

Is it really thin... very thin viscosity???

is the coolant low? cause a lot of the time the oil is over filled due to a head gasket leaking coolant into the crank case. oil looks like a milkshake.

once you drain it you'll know if its coolant or not, coolant will come out first, then oil.

Sounds like someone went to change it and forgot to drain first.

Unfortunately the overfill phenomenon is more often caused an owner who didn't know very much about cars trying to "fix" an engine noise or rough running by buying motor oil and pouring it in. It usually accompanies other more serious engine damage which was happening before the overfill.
