Round 1. Bought a ATP, lots of RTV, busted a bolt (resolved) and it still leaked. Do some research, apparently the ATP were sub-par fits.

Sent it back, bought a AC Delco, and it seemed to fit very well. Put everything back together, and it was fine for 10 minutes. Then it leaked like the first one.

Do I have to drop the oil pan to get better fitment or something? Is there something else I'm obviously forgetting on this repair?

Pretty frustrating.. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, doing the timing chain today. Then we'll try one more time.

Where is it leaking from?

What condition is the oil pan gasket where the timing cover sits?

What sequence are you torqueing the bolts in?

Where was it leaking? Perimeter or Crank seal? Different fix for each. Is your balancer in good shape?

It's leaking from the bottom of the perimeter. I have a crap ton of RTV on the bottom. Maybe it's just not setting right?

I have the timing chain switched out. I don't know the condition of the oil gasket- I haven't touched the pan.

Did you let the RTV cure overnight? Washed it well with BrakeKleen and rag first, got the corners clean and dry? I learned long ago dont rush the job, all I can do is move a little faster and make amistake.
Good Luck!

I did let it dry 24 hours, I didn't brake Kleen! That will be a must this time. Thanks.. good info.

So, it's looking good. Spent an hour or two cleaning everything up from that last install, and was generous with the Brake Kleen. Used Permatex "Right Stuff" and let it sit overnight. Prelim tests look good! I did 5 miles, came back let it idle for 10 mins, nothing.

I appreciate the advice folks!

OMG its leaking again.

I'm going to try this one more time- maybe use a different RTV. And more of it.

I'm hoping I don't have to actually drop the front Dif and oil pan to make this fit? It seemed a fine fit each time I've done this.

Shop wants 900- mentioned they would do those things. I'm not getting why that's necessary.

I think I know what happened.

When taking off the cover, part of the oil pan seal came off with it, and until that's fixed, I don't think I'll have a resolution.

Time to drop the pan. This might hurt.

If you’re on your back without a lift, a transmission jack sort of helps with manhandling that front differential. Still a wobbly-ass thing to fool with, regardless.
