Hi, I'm still kinda new to this... I have a 12 Tahoe thinking about getting LED DRL's. How hard are they to change and which ones should I get?
5K or 6K ? I know the bulb is a 3157. I looked on VLED and both are the same price. Thanks

There are several threads about this but I have tried LED DRLs twice with bad luck both times. I never tried a resistor, so definitely buy a resistor when you try it. superbrightleds.com has good quality bulbs.

I had em in my 08 Tahoe. If you can remove the headlight it's pretty easy. I'd go with 5k personally but it's all a matter of opinion. The higher the number the bluer the light is.

I out dual LED switchbacks in both the DRL and running lights and reworked the harness with a few resistors and diodes. This setup has both lights on either side always act as the DRL and then when the turn signal is initiated they both blink on that particular side amber off amber off and then back to solid white when it's done. The bulbs stay white all the time now, even at night when the headlights turn on.

You do have to take the headlights out to change the bulbs and it a PITA.

I've got a wiring diagram to do this it you'd like it. Here are some if the things I used to accomplish this.

LEDs off eBay:

Resistors that came with them:

Diodes from radio shack or electronics store:

3157 bulb socket to replace DRL socket:

Harness mess after all done. I'm installing this into new oem replica headlight assemblies with projector retrofit for my Lo beams this weekend:

That is sick. Isn't Serge or someone else on here running a similar setup with quad projectors? If you wouldn't mind sharing the wiring diagram I'd love to see it.

Yes Serge had the original setup like this back a year or two ago I believe. That's where I initially saw it and from there I decided to tackle it myself. Also he did have a quad retrofit done. Mine are just singles. I may upgrade in the future to putting projectors in my hi's as well.

Regarding the wiring diagram for the switchback LEDs; I really wouldn't attempt this if you don't knew what you're doing. I had a relative who's an engineer do this with me. There is a lot of soldering and head gun use needed. It really is a simple concept but if you do something wrong you could have to replace the entire harness which includes your hi and lo beams.

Here is the wiring diagram we put together:

Keep in mind this is just for one side so you have to replicate this for the opposite.
