LED noob question

Was looking at some puddle light LED's and some have 12 SMD's and some have 5 big SMD's. Is one better than the other or does it all depend on brand. Sorry, I've researched some but it seems even more confusing?

I think its just how big the actuall smd light is. If its the five they have the bigger square thingies if its twelve they have them smaller.

I actually got one with 9 SMD LED's and it was too big so i'm almost positive the 12 SMD would be too big. I went with the 5 SMD LED's and it barely fit.

I actually broke a 5, instead of trimming the housing a bit. now I will re-order and trim for the new set.

going to switch to this, now that I know the housing can handle more depth, not width.

and they are BRIGHT! The 2 high powered LEDs are both pointed down so the only light it put off is going down to the ground

Thanks for the info, I was actually looking at the ones pointing downward. I think I might go with those now that I have someone to kinda vouch for them!
