I disagree with you a little. In my experience A BODY LIFT IS NEVER A GOOD ALTERNATIVE. The shop I do everything with (Olympic Offroad) will not even sell or install a body lift. I have heard in the past that they are not that bad if they are under 3 inches. But then why would you not put on spacers?

Yeah, I got the level kit (2.5"front and 1"rear) for $125 and installed for ~$225 including alignment. This is on an NNBS.
Level kit vs lift kit vs body lift - really depends on use/expectations and how you drive. IMO they are all good alternatives depending on use, and each has pros and cons.
