Lights Went Out While Doing 75mph...

Hey guys/gals...

I just recently traded for a 2004 GMC Yukon SLT AWD on Craigslist. I love the yukon but about a week ago I started noticing weird electrical issues.

1. Headlights went out while driving down road, I turned the dial to manually turn them on and they came back to life.

2. No Power to Rear DVD Overhead Player

3. Interior lights came on while driving last night and then went off after about 20 seconds.

4. The knob that controls the headlights ramdomly lights on and off.

I'm beginning to have huge doubts about my trade, sounds like I may be stuck with a lemon that someone got rid of just in time. The engine and transmission are mechanically sound.

Any Ideas???

1. The issue could be a dead dash light sensor. I had a bad one and had to manually turn them on. If memory from about 4 years ago served me correct it was about $12 on eBay. I would start there.

Will this also cure the no power to the rear overhead dvd player and the static sound that comes from the rear speakers even when the radio is turned off?

The DVD would be a option from the factory so It would not be tied into the sunlight sensor. As for the DVD, start easy. Check fuses. If there is no power going TO the DVD, then you know theres a supply problem. Those overhead DVDs have common problems of taking a after a few years. It may be just a problem witht the DVD itself.

Ok, here is an update. All fuses are good. The rear speaker makes a noise when the radio is on or off (static sound) and tonight when I pushed in the button for fog lamps, my interior lights all came on!!!

I think this Yukon is haunted.

I honestly don't know what to do. Could this be caused by a faulty BCM?

So now when I push the button for my fog lights, the interior lights come on.

Take a day this weekend and pull your panels out of the dash that have your faulty switches on them. Check the wire harnesses behind them. See if any of them are chaffing. If memory serves, the wire for the exterior lights has a shielded ground on it. If it broke off, it could be a source of your issues. I hope that you just have a couple of small issues all happening at once and not a bigger problem. You have a great truck in your possession. We will help as much as we can.

As far as I remember all the light switches are on that one little box to the bottom left of the steering wheel. My interior lights can
t always be over ridden but sometimes they can. Sounds to me like you have a fault box or whatever it is. THey go for about 80-100 I think.

Could the light issue and not having power to the rear DVD be a result of a faulty or bad BCM?
