04 yukon denali with Bose and xm. Using iPhone 5 as source.

I'm trying to tap the xm wires for a line in as has been noted on many sites. I cut the green white and brown white wires but I have two problems

1. The line in sounds bad. All high and low with no mids at all. Like I'm using a bad Karaoke machine

2. There is a slight crackle in the radio.

Any advice or suggestions?

The problem may be the iPhone. I've heard of similar problems using the headphone jack.

Hmmm. I suppose that's possible, but I use the headphone jack very often with other systems and it works fine. Does the truck radio receive the signal differently than just L/R?

There are 3 wires, left positive, right positive, and common negative. You have a ground loop so there appears to be an issue with how the negative is managed.

For future reference if anyone finds this thread, the problem was with the ground. So I cut the black ground wire in addition to the b/w and g/w wires. I then connected the wire "shield" to the ground. All problems solved. Sounds great now.

(Emf I was typing at the same time as you. Thanks for confirming it with me).

Whats up? I'm Looking for some advice on the same type of hookup. I also tapped into the XM unit to mod in a aux jack. My jack works perfectly, except when I plug my phone charger into the lighter. When I do this, I get a whine (ground loop hum) from my speakers. Any advice?
