Local HP-Pro tuner ideas for '03 5.3 XL ?

Hello all
There is a local street tuner in my area with an HP Pro who is offering tunes for $200.00 + $50.00 for each re-tune. My YXL has a Air-raid intake tube as its only mod, plus 22 inch wheels. This is my daily driver, which I use for driving to sporting events, usually loaded with people, sometimes light trailer and roof rack. Going up long grades is awful, getting on freeway is awful. Most of this is related to gearing/transmission settings I suppose. Speedo is off. I have a couple of questions.

1. I am thinking about Corvette servo prior to tuning. Worth the effort? I will install myself.

2. Is there a basic tuning protocol that has proven successful for the type of driving I am doing? a file? I guess I am asking for a boxed tune like would come with a handheld, but one that has been proven here. Or what to keep an eye on when talking to the tuner in case he misses something.

3. Would a handheld be an acceptable solution for my type of driving?

What is HP Pro? HP Tuners?

$50 a tune update is a bit steep, depending on what he considers an update. Your larger wheels/tires certainly are a culprit of grade issues and your speedo being off. A Vette servo is a nice cheap upgrade for your transmission, but if you are towing a lot, an HDII kit might be worth your while.

If the tuner knows his stuff, he should already have an idea of the types of data events that he needs to make a proper calibration on your vehicle.
