The last statement seems to indicate that they will cover replacement of the valve body - usually these are handled as an "extended warranty" on that particular component. I know on my 2017 Honda Accord the DRLs fail at such a high rate that Honda sent me a letter a few years back saying they extended the warranty on the DRL to 10 years - unlimited mileage.

Dealers will install new transmission control module software free of charge. This module will monitor valve performance and detect excess wear approximately 10,000 miles before a wheel lock-up condition could occur. If detected, the transmission will shift gears to prevent lock up and a service engine light and reduced propulsion message will display.

GM will also provide a special program to cover the repair of transmissions that the software identifies as having a defective control valve.
Where did your last statement regarding a special TCV replacement program come from?

It IS NOT contained in the recall. From what I can tell all they're doing is a software patch to keep lockup from occurring. It seems to me the repair, at least past the 100K Powertrain warranty is on US, which I find extremely disturbing.

They are not replacing the TCV. The recall is updating the software to detect the TCV is going to fail. Once it fails, if it's under warranty, GM will replace it under warranty, if you are out of warranty, get your wallet out.

Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to say...all they're doing is eliminating the capability of the vehicle to lockup. Repairing the now known issue will be up to the owner if out of warranty. They save $$ with a software only update and WE ARE GOING TO PAY FOR an out of warranty repair. To me that is an unacceptable "solution" to a now-known TCV wear issue when the vehicle is still under warranty as mine is. They just want to push as many TCV failures past the warranty as possible at our expense.

IDK much about the legality of this, but it sounds like a class action lawsuit to cover TCV replacement costs post-warranty to me.

"Getting my wallet out" for a known condition resulting in a recall is THE issue.

My vehicle qualifies for this, when I open up my GMC app and look at recalls it lists a 15-year 150,000-mile warranty for this issue. You probably will have to go through the software step first, but I have no worries about this being covered when and if the valve needs to be replaced.
