Had to move out of my 1999 and those body styles. I am on my fourth one now. Has 282k on the engine and a bad valve/ I bought it just over 3 years ago for $2350 and have put a $1500 or so in it, but now its time to switch.

I almost got a 2011 tahoe last week but realized it only had a singe speed transfer case. I didn't know that had such a thing.

So now I am looking for another. What are things to watch out for. I have just started reading this section for insights t looking at this version of Tahoes. any years better than others?

Thanks for any and all input!!

2010-2014 are good, your going to read a lot about afm/4 cylinder mode being a possible issue, it can be turned off lessening any chances of possible lifter failure. If it was as much of a issue as some make it out to be then gm wouldn't still be using it. so :Violin:

I'd aim for a '10+.

But, if you find a nice '09, you may include that among your candidates. '09+ have the 6-speed trans. '10+ (may have been mid-year '10) got some updates to the AFM and PCV system, but an '09 could have been updated with the newer parts. AFM (AKA "DOD" or "4-cylinder mode") is a potential problem system, but may not be a deal-breaker on a '10+ that was well-maintained. VVT is generally stable and a good thing.

Found another 2011, LTZ with 80,300 miles, one owner . two speed transfer case. 19K and I'll probably add some warranty. Maybe tomorrow, I'll have wheels again, hate having to ask for wife's car . I will get the 99 going again, then I'll have a backup!

You're lumping two systems together.

VVT is a two-mode cam phaser that gives the engine better performance over a wider range of engine speeds. This is, for the most part, a trouble-free system.

What you're calling 4-cylinder mode is Active Fuel Management. Also described as cylinder deactivation or displacement on demand. This, in my opinion, is a flawed and problematic design. The biggest problem most folks have with this system is collapsed lifters. Keeping the oil clean by changing it more frequently is the best preventive. Myself, I will never own an AFM truck.

I have been stuck in the 90's with my 97's & 99's I have had. I had not really heard about the AFM until just a short time on here but now I own one. I have had bad habits of infrequent oil changes , I now have another reason to change(no pun intended) my bad habit as I got a warranty and have read the warranty companies possibly require documentation of changes, shop receipts etc. I am going to inquire about that immediately with the warranty company. Never tried an aftermarket warranty before. fingers crossed!

Thanks to all for the input.
