Do you think GM doesnt roll-test their vehicles? Sure a roll cage might increase your chances of prevention of casualty, but at the same time a roll cage can cause more harm than good. You ever see a guy at a drag strip has his head split wide open after hitting it on a roll cage because he wasnt in a 5-point harness?? Happens all the time. Take it from a guy that has been racing for 15 years..
Not only that but if you have ever talked to someone who has a roll cage in their street car, they will attest to what a pain in the ass it is to get in and out of constantly.
And if you think you're going to pay $800 for a roll cage, think again. You can aybe buy a DIY cage for that much, but you'll have to weld it in yourself. For a full front to back cage, expect to pay $2500+.
A roll cage is not just something you can have Billy Bob down the street and his stick welder install. If you miss a key tie-in point, then you're thought of trying to be safe goes right out window..

It's better than nothing really and you can insulate it so if you smack into it it won't really hurt that much but yea I can get it done for really only metal cost:)

I have to agree with this post. I don't think you will be able to make the vehicle much safer unless you fully understand the chassis design, perform simulations, and field test your modifications. It isn't easy to engineer something, so please be careful.

Whatever guys, its your money and your trucks.. Im just giving you my advice from my experience.. If you want to trust you and your family's life to some entryman in tech school's welding abilities, go for it..

^ +1 - I COMPLETELY agree.

And if one needs a roll cage to protect themselves from everyday potential driving hazards in a Tahoe or a Yukon, how does that individual safely cross the street? In a bubble? Will you enter an airplane?

I mean come on, when the Lord decides it is time for us to go, then not even a roll cage will pretend that from happening.
