Even with the spacers I'm almost positive the factory covers will fit, but I won't be able to tell you for several months. Even still, 4 6.5's speakers will be more than adequate, especially if used with an external amplifier as you're currently contemplating. :Handshake:

Okay... a couple months ago I installed the folling in my 99 four door Yukon...

Head Unit: Alpine CDA 9886
Door Speakers (Front & Rear): Polk Audio db 651s 6-1/2" Slim 2-way Speakers
Rear (Above Cargo Doors): Kenwood KFC-415C 4"x10" 2-way Speakers

I have to say, I am not totally thrilled with my choice in speakers. They are not horrible but I want something that is a little louder and has more bass to it without (and I know this is the though part) installing a subwoofer. I had two 12 inch Alpine Type-R's at one point with the stock speakers every where else but thats just too much imo. I don't have an issue with an sub but since there is no way to keep it from mucking up the rear cargo area (which I use all the time) I am kinda hosed unless there are other optins for mounting a sub(s).

Anywhooo... I am looking for recommendations on replacements for all the speakers in the truck. I am a rock and roll kinda guy who just wants louder, clear, sound, with a bass kick behind it when I need it. Nothing that will wake 17 city blocks when I am driving to my office at 7 am.

I would love to jam 6x9's in the rear above the doors and have found that it can be done by modifying that mounting plate but no sure on the mounting depth of the new speakers so I need help and recommendations there please.

Further, I hear that component speakers are the way to go up front (didnt do that this time around) so what are people liking up there as far as component sets?

Any advice and info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advnace
Mike

So its been awhile for this thread I know but I never got around to amping my 4 door speakers. I have the amp just gave up trying to install myself since like all the carpet has to come up and the seats out and blah blah blah hibbity who blah. The amp I have is a MTX Audio JackHammer JH404 4-Channel. So I am certain it can handle the Polk Audio 651s speakers I have for all four doors. I am still wondering if I would be better off with component speakers for the front doors though. Thoughts? Also, are there any new opinions on what other 6.5 speakers are good for our applications currently? Meaning, what do you guys like running for door speakers right now? Still looking for recommnedations and suggestions on 5 x 9's from the guys that are running those back in the cargo area as well.

unknown at this time.
I highly recommend components at least in the fronts and backs to if willing . Polk db6501 about $120 at amazon from different sellers. Kenwood make these KFC-415C for the 4*10 roof opening which have good specs but I have no plans to use the roof setup. They sell from $50 to $80 on amazon depending on the seller. Most people just leave them off there system. They are really to far back and weak to make a difference in the high end audio world :imo:

with 6 speakers any head unit needs an amp for loud and clear sound. The rear door holes are really shallow so get a speaker with small neodenium magnets or similar. Secondly the less bass you send to the speakers the louder they can go, so if you want a little bump put a small sealed box under 2nd row or on the floor in front of center council if you have push button 4 wheel. Alpine has great amps for a good price. When running amps its always a good idea to get a head unit with front, rear and sub RCA outputs to adjust the fade from the drivers seat.

Yeah oddly enough... i have those Kenwoods now in the rear but was thinking about a 6x9 since I know I can make em fit. I have 4 Polk Audio 651s right now in the doors but never got my amp hooked up. I have an Alpine CDA 9886 head unit so I am good there and the MTX Jackhammer amp will power all my door speakers. Really just was thinking about 6x9's and weather or not to go with a component set in the front doors. Plus if there is any new hot high flying stuff for the rear doors, I'm game for changing them too but it seems that the Polk Audio stuff is getting great reviews no matter where I look. LOL

the power from the amp will make a HUGE difference in the sound quality. right now your head unit is underpowering the speakers.
