how do you check the fluid on our transfer cases? is this something that needs to be changed?
You don't have part-time wheel hubs, you have a drive flange that connects the cv shafts to the hub all the time. There is a center axle disconnect that moves in the front differential to connect the front driveshaft (from the t-case) to the front axleshafts (to the wheels) This may be stiff from non-use, or if you use 4x4 a lot in your Yukon, it is wearing out. At the same time, the CV shafts could be bad, but that is more akin to a snapping/popping sound when turning under load.Hey guys, I realize I'm in the OBS section but I have only gotten one response to this question in the NBS section so I decided to see if maybe someone over here could possibly help me out. I have an 01 yukon slt 4WD. Saturday i decided to take the family for a quick off road ride, nothing fancy just a few minutes of off roading. As I approached the turn to go off road i put it in 4WD. I noticed a sound almost like grinding. We were probably off roading for 3 minutes and then i went back to normal road conditions and put it back in 2WD and the noise stopped.
We went to a store and when i got back in, before backing up i put it in 4WD again to see if it made the noise while going in reverse, I heard it again and then it seemed like it didn't want to go so I put it back in 2WD and all was fine. As I put it in drive i again put it in 4WD and heard the noise again. I'm thinking it's my wheel hubs but can't be sure as I am clueless when it comes to 4WD. What little I have learned I have learned on here. Any ideas?
Thanks
