Long story short, or atleast an attempt to make it that way. I got hosed buying a 2010 denali xl from a shady used car dealership. I was in a bind and need somthing that day. Truck ran good had no unusual noises. Fast forward 1 payment to the bank and around 1600 miles put on the truck, wife calls me frantic cause the oil pressure took a dive, so she cut it off and got it towed. Found a gm dealer that would work with the warranty company. They are recommending at the minimum cam and lifters, but would prefer to do a full engine replacement. Well warranty company is a joke and wants a full tear down on our dime first, to be sure they want to cover it. I guess my question is will afm failure cause low oil pressure or is it the other way around because I am really tempted to get it home and just afm delete it. But I need to be confident the rest of the engine is good.

For what it's worth, I had an '07 that I bought and after a month the oil pressure dropped. I ran a quart of transmission fluid in the oil for about 40. Mi. Changed the oil and it was never a problem again. Town I

Low oil pressure is more than likely an indication problem caused by a plugged oil sending unit screen. It's a PITA to replace unless you have small hands but can be done in the driveway. Common problem and there's a whole sticky thread on it at the top of this section. Is it making any noises? Why does the shop think cam and lifters?

Mine took a shit once, changed the filter screen and pressure sending unit, I’m 14,000 miles in with no problems yet…

or the oring pickup

the best way to test it is by overfilling it by 2 qt to see if it fixes it

If you post a video of what it sounds like, we can advise you better. Record on your phone, upload to Youtube as public, and link it here. In my opinion, it's very unlikely that you actually have oil pressure low enough to cause an engine mechanical problem. 90% of the time it's the sensor screen. The rest of the time it's the oil pickup tube o-ring as has already been mentioned. How many miles on the truck?

I had the same problem when I bought my 2012 with 90K on it. I was driving over the Colorado mountains at night on its maiden voyage and got a low oil pressure warning message. I just kept driving it until I got home, figuring if the engine grenaded, it needed replacing anyway. Turned out to be the screen below the sensor.

Trucks got 145k on it. I haven't heard it. My wife is actually quite good with vehicles and I i showed her various YouTube videos of lifter/afm failure sounds and she's pretty confident that's the noise she heard. I have no reason to not be confident in the gm dealer they have been nothing but helpful. May just go ahead and drop the 8k on the gm motor probably get trans work done while its there to. We got really screwed on this thing.
