massive torque and pulling power that equals = diesel if youd consider it you could get a cummins 6bt depending on how much yer willing to spend you can get a alotta hp and torque outta them
another issue with putting such a oversized motor into a halfton frame is other componants of the suspension and drivetrain arent capable of handling all the extra torque and hp
cuz ive looked into bigger motor alternatives to my 01 suburban and the biggest hangup i found is the half ton frame if i had a 2500 suburban the sky is the limit

Just out of curiosity, didn't the 1992 Chevy 454 SS have a 1500 frame. If so, why would a 454 stress out a 1500 Tahoe?

Drivetrain aside, it should be the same frame. It may be a good idea to run 2500 torsion bars with the 454 but outside of that, I can't see anything in the suspension that would be a show stopper.

The 454 ss was essentially just a prostreet truck suspension wise it probably had a slightly stiffer front for the slight extra weight. Outside of that for the most part it was probably the same setup. These trucks do have an option for a turbo diesel so you could look for some of those suspension and frame components and see if there are any difference. They are rare to find so you would be looking on rockauto or wherever for parts and see if there are different part numbers. Outside of that i wouldn't really be concerned about the frame itself just separate components that can be replaced.

those early 90s 454 ss yes they were a half ton frame but they were only putting 230 hp and the 91 454 ss only had 25 more hp

Man. That thing must have been heavily restricted with emission requirements to put out such a low hp rating. Either detuned or just bogged down. Seems like even a stripped down stock 454 should put out more than that.

Either way this has been an interesting topic. I desperately need to get something going for a new power plant. I plan to start the transformation soon.

No experience with an LS but my 502 is doing ok. I suspect your factory computer could run a BBC, with a bigger pump and injectors of course.

What's the progress on this thing?
My 2 door is just like yours but more beat up. I only have 18" on 37" Mickey Thompsons
I put an NV4500 in it and I'm fairly certain I have a blown head gasket.
Thinking 383 stroker vs LQ9...
Also, if you put the 500ci engine up front, with 37" tires, I'd seriously consider a solid front axle swap. I'm putting a D44 up front. Not because I wheel it hard but because I want to swap in the axle and never have to replace another idler arm bushing, a-arm bushing, tie rod end blah blah blah. Either way, might consider a D60 if you're going to offroad it. The 37" tires eat up all the front end components.
