My 2001 Tahoe recently gave me a P0101 code, along with some infrequent jerky performance (engine seeming to briefly cut out under acceleration), so I bought it a new MAF for Thanksgiving. The new part improved things for maybe an hour of driving in town, then the code returned and the loss of acceleration seemed to get worse.

I thought I would clean the old MAF and switch back. I also thought I would test driving with the MAF unplugged to see if I could learn anything on my way to get cleaner. After maybe 10 miles and two stops I got a Reduced Engine Performance message in the message center, along with limp-home" speed. I also got a P1514 code.

I plugged the MAF back in, and was able to drive home, with some random acceleration cuts.

My plan is to replace the air filter (the current one looks clean, but I have a new one, so...), clean the old MAF, clean and inspect the rubber fittings on both ends of the MAF, and see where things are.

What other potential problem spots should I check while I am under the hood?

Thanks!

Replacement MAF was new, but not OEM/Delphi. Bad part is definitely a possibility.

It is also possible that I didn't get the MAF seated properly on one end or the other. I am trying to be very careful with reinstallation of the cleaned up old MAF.

Thanks for taking time to reply!

I would try another oem on even if it is used, the maf on these typically start to take a crap at about 160k and can cause all kinds of weird problems they control shifting and everything.
