No top cover, just a rubber seal that seals it to the hood... In my experience, the ones with lids don't allow enough airflow through the small inlets, specially when the truck isn't moving
More than you would think... It can affect the quality of your idle. My intake shows NO signs of "120°+ engine bay heat". I would notice since I monitor IAT and IAT 2 very closely with my blower. Cold air doesn't help a blower if there is a restriction somewhere and a positive displacement blower like the OP is going to be using will be VERY sensitive to restriction before the throttle body and cause major HP loss. I'd take slightly warmer air with no restriction vs cold air and a restriction any day. But again, my IATs show no sign of "120°+ engine bay heat"How much air does the engine need when the truck isn't moving? Or does yours idle at WOT?
I'd rather the engine get as much outside air as possible than suck in 120°+ engine bay heat. There's just too many gaps in the "heat shield" type enclosures.

Just curious... what do your IATs run???
With my stock air box modified the way it is my IATs run about 2-5° warmer than outside temps while cruising down the highway. The only time they go up is when idling or in stop and go traffic.
My IAT2 temps which are the most important are only 8-12° over ambient which is better than a stock Camaro ZL1 or Cadillac CTS-V. They typically see 15-20° over ambient Temps with a blower at IAT2. IAT 1 which is what you're looking at really doesn't matter for us blower guys but I typically see just a few degree's over ambient.
Why IAT 1,2 doesn't matter with blower?
IAT 2 is the temp that the blower see's after the air goes through the cooling brick in the lid. It's the only one that matters, it's the final temp of the air before being compressed and forced in the engine... With an interchiller (heat exchanger cooling tied into the A/C system), I can have a IAT 1 temp of 100 degrees or even higher and IAT 2 should still be cooled down to 50-60 degrees.
