manual transmission conversion?

so the tahoe ate another 4L60E... a monster trans too. What garbage. I am looking to switch to the five speed setup that the silverados have. Does anyone know how to do this or have any info on it? also, does anyone have this done in their tahoes?

mines a 1997 4dr 4wd 5.7

if you can find a silverado with the same 5.7 engine, then I dont see why that tranny in the truck couldnt be switched with the one in the hoe.

I've never switched one on the hoe but this seems logical to me. ( unless the axles are also geared different as well. )

there was another thread about the switch on here a little while back. it can be done, if you can find all the parts for a price that makes it worth it.

LOL If you blew a properly built 4L60 there is no way a pickup 5 speed is gonna last in there. If you are lucky you will just blow apart a clutch or two. If you are good you'll weld the flywheel to the clutch. I think you need to change your driving habits. :p

possibly lol. Im not the easiest on the tahoe. Its kind of stupid though that monster preaches how good their equipment is... this trans was rated for 500hp (450tq). Boy was I let down. GARBAGE. I went through the first one in 4 days while breaking it in, the second in 5 months.
They even have the nerve to tell their customers to "send us a video testimonial... do a burnout and we'll give you 10% off your order" or some bull like that. Yeah. ok. I'd never trust one of those trans' again. I took it to the trans shop down the road to have it rebuilt with a legitamate warranty. And as a side project ill rebuild a spare so i know its right.

I went from a mild 350/350 Camaro to my 86 Blazer, which was a 4 speed. I beat that thing BAD. 3 clutches and 2 rear ends later I finally started driving it like it was a truck and not a hoped up Camaro. Everything started lasting longer. Hahahaha

An NV4500 out of a 3/4 or 1 ton truck would be your best option if you want bulletproof for the most part, the NV3500 is weak and isn't much if any stronger than a 4L60e. I'm in the middle of swapping the 4500 in, the locations for the clutch pedal bracket, and hole for the shifter are already marked in the cab. Same length as a 4L60e so no driveshaft mods will be needed and you need a 32 spline input gear for the transfer case. PCM will have to flashed with a manual tune.

Hmm...I'd kinda like to do that too. A manual in my truck would be awesome.

Swap in a 4L80E out of a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. They are much more heavy duty and are probably easier than swapping in a 5 speed.
