This morning I got up and continued to work on removing the side moldings. I’ve been using Goof Off and a Metal Putty Knife. I’ve scraped my paint a few times but mainly spots I can just buff out. The hardest part so far is removing the actual panel, and the most time consuming is waiting for the Goof Off to weaken the glue.

Drivers side is almost done:

Passenger side is just getting started: View attachment 187471

I have work in about 30 minutes so I’ll have to finish it up tomorrow morning, then it’s on to repainting the roof rack!
Try a heat gun on low or even a hair dryer. Makes it much easier.

Always great to be able to order new parts. The eraser wheels you can get on Amazon or eBay for like $8, you don't need the 3M branded ones. They really are worth having, removing my side molding was cake thanks to it. A heat gun is very helpful too, just keep it moving so you don't bubble your paint.

Hopefully you'll share when you get everything installed. Good luck!

Not gonna lie.....I was attempting to do the complete opposite! Apparently I failed miserably!

Op....What I meant to say was do as you wish....if you seek advice, ask it. If you receive unsolicited advice or opinions that you do not agree with...ignore it. I am glad that there is a new member here and I am still a newb myself. I AM following your thread because I am excited to see what you create. Welcome (even though I don't feel qualified yet to do the welcoming!)

P.S. -Bigbeardenali1992 ....you should have sent me a PM instead of placing that comment publicly. Kind of negated your whole post! It was like a double negative and you disturbed the force!

I completely understand what you’re saying, I just think I haven’t looked at the proper way to do most things because that usually ends up costing more! I’m on a limited budget as I work part-time and am a senior in high school so I only get around 300-350$ a paycheck, usually after paying insurance and for gas plus a few other money grabbers, it leaves me with little money to buy parts/upgrades. Thank you for your concern!

@matt00 , welcome aboard man! Subbed to see those roof racks painted! I’ve always liked that idea! In for seeing how everything turns out that you have planned!

Hopefully I’ll have those done by next weekend. I first planned on spray painting them a flat black, but after talking to a couple of my buddies we all agreed a bed liner spray would look, and work great!

I have a buddy with one that used it to remove his and his dads side molding glue. I’m going to talk to him about using it tomorrow and hopefully I’ll be done!

You're doing good buddy. Just pace yourself, and there's no need to rush.
Plenty of time to do mods.

Welcome and fyi Those led guage lights will not work in your 03.
03-06 have to be soldered in.
Being cold out doesn't help your cause with the trim glue.
I know you're on a budget but please invest in the eraser wheel. Not only is it safer for your paint, and fingers lol, but it's waaaayyy faster. Plus you can use it over and over again on your next vehicles and friends vehicles. They last awhile. In the end you will spend more money on bottles of goof-off.

But most importantly you're on the right track getting those ugly side moldings off to begin with.
Excited to see the color changing footwell lights. Pretty cheap. I might buy a kit myself.

That’s pretty dissapointing actually. I probably should have looked more into it before purchasing. Thankfully they were only 7$, they probably wouldn’t have worked anyway! I have a buddy with the light strips in a 05 Sierra and they looked pretty good at night. I’m excited for those as well! Next I’ll have to figure out a different way to get my gauges bright again.

Subbed. Welcome to the family. And remember you can always look around on here before starting a project to get pointers from others who have done what you're about to. There's free knowledge to be gained that will make things easier. Research everything before you start, and take your time. There's a ton of people here who have removed those moldings and pretty much anything else you're thinking of doing so take advantage of their trial and error. You stole that truck, now have fun modding it!
