TYF Newbie
Hey all, a new member here, hailing from good ole alberta canada.
Just found the site while looking for some torque specs.
Long story made short, got a 97 tahoe, 5.7L 4x4, 4 door.
shes in pretty excellent condition all around aside from one lil hiccup...
it was the inlaws, thier 16 yr old daughter got herself a license... aaaand you can see where this is goin riight?
so, idler pully siezed up, belt, burnt off, engine overheated..
they got it back home, and the father inlaw figures heck, well just change head haskets and give it a try,
so, new head gaskets, and intake gaskets etc, along with new idler and tensioner, and belt, and temp sensor, etc, and a new head, since one head was cracked right in the center
i knew it was a bad idea to even mess with the engine, you could see where part of the head gasket blew into one cylinder and scarred it!
but what do I know right?
so you can imagine how well tha worked out.. it did make a trip or two around the block after...
so we got a new engine from the wreckers, and I just got it off the engine stand. tore it down, replaced gaskets etc etc. Now I just need to find the torque specs/sequence etc for the rear main, its got that lil collar dealy back there that holds the rear main seal. Im thinkin theres a few drops of sealant that goes into certain nooks and crannies as well, or it seemed like it when i tore it down. I know where theres a few spots for the oil pan gasket, but not sure bout the rear main stuff..
basicaly got all that to go back together, the oil pan, and the filter adapter, then shes pretty much ready to go back in.
Best part of the whole ordeal? He said once its fixed, hes givin it to us.. which is good, since we just had our third kid, (My fourth,) and not everyone can fit in my dakota at once, which is mute point since i took the tranny outta her 2 weeks ago..
so now im in a mad rush to get this thing goin so we have a vehicle again! lol
Anyways, that pretty sums up me, my tahoe, and.. well yeah,
guess thats my intro post!
