WOW, what are you driving? I reset my trip after installing my tune & turning off AFM over 25K miles ago so including winter warm up, city driving & lots of running idle I'm still over 20mpg avg.
I think the best I've ever averaged over a tank is like 21. That's coming back from west to east on cross country road trip. My lifetime average is 17ish. Seeing all these high mpg posts makes me think they all drive much slower than me. I do the math on real mpg when we're traveling and it's always less than the dash shows. 6.2 10 speed, short body. 40 psi in the tires and serviced from top to bottom since new.
To be fair on this one. I towed my teardrop the first 400 miles with stiff head and crosswinds. The next 400 was messing around the desert roads in Big Bend. A trip like that i typically get 12.5 or so. Driving around being sane, and in semi rural traffic, I get closer to 15.
The key to good mpg numbers is using your brakes as little as possible. Lots of elevation changes here in Oregon. I used to have 140 mile daily commute when I lived on the coast and had to drive over the coastal range. I would watch people gas hard going up & a sea of red lights riding their brakes going down. Except for the 1st & last miles I would make it without touching my brakes.
