I own a '96 Tahoe 4x4 4-door and recently made a 400 mile round trip from Chattanooga, TN, to Manchester, GA. I kept the speed between 65 to 68 mph and averaged 18.5 mpg. I'm running on Michelin LTX 265/75/16's with 40 psi all around. 3.42 gear ratio and 4L60E trans. All stock under the hood. The truck has 178k showing. Hope this helps...
My truck is in major needs for parts - 99% of the truck has original parts and 216K miles on it... - Had the truck for +-6 months and got it that way - Just changed the plugs/wires (tried to change the cap and rotor but the truck started bucking so I put the original back on)
What I have been getting is roughly 400+- per tank - 96 Tahoe 4WD
One perk that I have (not sure about the rest of you) is the gas station I go to is 100% pure gas - absolutely no ethanol with regular gas - so I am sure with proper parts it could get better
I have tested that their gas is much better, with my '10 Cobalt I was getting low 30s on the highway, ran a few tanks of ethanol free gas through it and I was in the mid 40's - Heck even in town I was getting 30
Dont know my tanks' capacity but i have a quarter tank now and have 220 miles since the last fill up and have been very heavy on the pedal along with 100% city driving......99 Yukon 5.7 Vortec using mid-grade fuel.
I get 390....at least that's when I start looking for a station real quick like. Put A cold air intake on. Helped it Zero. Than again, I accelerate harder because I like how it sounds.
The other day with a little over 1/2 a tank of mixed city/two lane hwy driving and a little less than 1/2 a tank of 70-75mph interstate driving I got 316 miles before I filled up. I still had a couple of hash marks above empty showing. I never run my vehicles all the way down to empty for fear of damaging the fuel pump.
With that mix of driving, it calculated out to 13.3 mpg. That was with 23.781 gallons at the fill-up. Keep in mind I'm running a 6" lift and 315/70R17's with 4.56 gears.
The part I don't understand is all 2-door tahoes have 30 gallon tanks, evidently there's 6 gallons left in the last two hash marks?
