I actually spent just a little under $500. I bought the projector/hid retro combo from TRS with the high beam splitter for a total of $305 flat there plus $130ish for the headlights on eBay. Aftermarket style OEM must be used to save the hassle of killing yourself trying to take apart the OEM lights.

I understand, but I was only answering the question that was asked.

:hail: nice headlights

hey guys what is the cost of something like this. im not a great DIYer so thats out the question lol thanks

Mine were $900 for parts...

Projectors: RX-350 Bi-Xenon ($225)
Lenses: RX-350 oem lenses custom polished clear ($50)
Bulbs: Osram Xenarc SVS D2S 4200K ($200)
Ballasts: Morimoto 5Five (50W) ($110)
Shrouds: Type K ($50)
Harness: Custom/Dedicated and modified for daytime 'flash to pass' ($35)
Park/Turn signal: Osram Diadem 3457 ($20)
Side marker: Osram Diadem 194 ($10)
DRL disable (pulled fuse)
Housings: TYC oem replicas ($200)

Total hardware cost: $900 + labor $.

if you're going thru blackflames or now performanceauto, it's around $1000 shipped. the op did the work himself so he only had to pay for parts. shipping to west coast, mine came to about $1064 and will take about 3 weeks from order placement to delivery.

i've heard from others that their after service is solid which i place high value on and that the actual headlight quality is excellent (i.e. perfectly aligned shrouds, no smudges or debris in the sealed headlight, true plug and play meaning 0 splicing of wires, etc).

also know that people have diff standards and expectations around quality. tough to gauge in a virtual community like this one. i know i'm on the high-end.

Whoop did not completely comprehend the not the DIY part, my bad. Now that is a badass lighting system you run though, definitely out of my price range haha. I can understand the $1k if you buy from a retrofitter like BlackFlameCustoms, but I for sure did not want to spent double to have it made, but that is just me. I am the DIY type I suppose, always have been always will be.

Talking with the people at BlackFlameCustoms I can tell they are quality people, they answers all my questions prior to me starting and gave me some amazing tips, if you do not want to risk the retro yourself I can say BFC seem like an amazing place to buy them pre-made. I actually used their headlights as an example to build mine.

I used a complete Morimoto Mini H1 retrofit kit from TheRetrofitSource.
Here is the link: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=227

The parts list are as follows:
Morimoto Mini H1 projectors
Morimoto 3Five Ballast
Morimoto 3Five 5000k bulbs
E46r-Extended shrouds
TRS H11 Wiring Harness
TRS High Beam Splitter
Eagle Eye brand aftermarket OEM-style headlights

Of course you are going to need things like an oven, dremel, silicon, JBWeld, and all that for the retrofit. I actually spent $420.95 to be exact not counting the things I already have which are the things in this paragraph.

In all honesty it was extremely simple to do, the hardest part of it all was definitely aligning both cutoff beams straight. I am extremely **** and I guess a perfectionist with this type of thing and had to get the lines as straight as I can get it, I was .4 degrees off from straight, no one can notice but it still annoys me.

I would not recommend someone tackle this themselves unless they really understand what they are doing and are generally very capable with this kind of stuff. Of course it can be done, many folks here have done retrofits with great success ... but the cost of failure is high. Cut in the wrong place, JB weld in the wrong place, line things up wrong, handle parts the wrong way, dremel in the wrong spot, and you have to start all over again with brand new expensive parts. It is highly precise and detailed work, and it is obviously why $500 labor is pretty standard for retrofits.

As far as how many hours, it really depends on many factors, including what mounting method is used ... Nathan's retro took about 12hrs straight of labor from start to finish. But that's with one of the best retrofitters in the business doing said labor, if one is on their first rodeo then it'll naturally take longer.

Reading a LOT of technical threads on hidplanet and talking at length with theretrofitsource will go a long way in mitigating any potential snafus.
