not much has changed since 1968 on the v8 engines only minor modifications to improve emissions and mpg slightly..
the only big changes were to the intake, ignition system and injection system.. it's still the same ole cast iron engine under that plastic cover..


the major change was on the Gen 4(inbetweener) when aluminum block, VVT was added & high pressure variable oil pump* hybrid model only..
those are just revisions and after thoughts..... it's only been 5 gen changes since then, those are considered "major changes"

you know fuel injected has been around for a while since 1957


Hey Brent, I gotta ask and being completely serious. Have you ever removed, torn down, Outsourced machining and "completely " Reassembled an engine or transmission and reinstalled it yourself? Be honest!

and they are different gens, that explains why they're completely different. no duh.. each gen is just a redesign .. duh

the only reason why it was even bothered to do any updates was to meet tighter emission requirements
other wise there would be no innovation..
it's one of the reason why the 5.7L was gone in 2005. No way to improve the emissions output

How do you have the time to bless us with your knowledge with all that dirty oil needing changed?? :) You are obviously an expert and cannot be taught but that's cool I will just go back to playing with my own toys. I should probably get off this forum and check the ole heap for clogged pushrods. BTW my boat is just as badass and I actually learn something everyday from people smarter than me. You should try the same

The Gen3 small block is 100% newly innovated and an improvement in pretty much any aspect possible over the Gen2 and older. It's more efficient, stronger and more easily serviceable. The only thing it shares with the previous generation is cylinder spacing and the bellhousing bolt pattern. You could argue that they share the layout with cam-in-block, pushrods and overhead valves, 2 valves per cylinder, etc. if you wanted to grasp at straws.


I got my information from the engines I've had my hands on and in.

But a 5.7l is a 5.7l so the Toilet bowl injected 350 in a 91 k1500 is the same as the 5.7 LS1 in the C5Corvette. :crazy:

EXACTLY! Just like GM's 2.2L I-4 is the exact same as Chrysler's 2.2L I-4. And Ford had a 2.3L "Iron Duke"...





I don't intend to make this a pissing match with Brent. But I can't quietly stand aside while someone slanders the LS! lol
