Oh man, I'd never recommend anything but an allison or a really stout TH400. Anything 4Lxx will be smoked before you you can say is my trans slipping? Lol
How can u say that if the 4l80 is basically a th400 with OD. dual fed they are plenty strong.

I speak purely for a DMAX application, the torque would take out the 80's sprag
In short order.. not to mention the heat generation would kill the solenoids.. GM wouldn't even pair it with the 8.1L.. Hell i've killed 4l80's with a TBI 5.7..

its do-able, need the engine mounts, trans cross member, Diesel Rad Support, a hydro boost set up and some beefy balljoints-tie rods and torsion bars. Electrical is a piece of piss.. get a diesel cluster and have the Engine harness to plug into to fuse center then put the missing diesel fuses in and your good to go.. sounds easy?? :deal:

But hell I Graph Silverado bodys to Dodge frames and wire Delphi rigging up to Cummins ECM's :lol2:

Actually it did come on the 8.1 after 07. My 4l85 came behind a 6.6l turbo diesel so they are no stranger to torque. Guys are putting 1000+hp thru 80's with equal amounts of torque. Your 80 behind a tbi 5.7 must have been stock with no hydraulic mods or bigger cooler. I'm sure my cammed 6.0 makes more power. Just never heard of an 80 being referred to as fragile.

The Duramaxs found in chevy cargo vans are 4L80s, not allisons. Although the motors are detuned by like 60hp?

Always been stockish tans but last 4l80 i smoked with my 94 K2500 maybe 300hp had external cooler, sonnex clutches and a shift kit Not saying their fragile or anything but a 5000lb suv with an extra 900lb of motor will roast it. Guys with 1000hp engines running billet everything 4l80's in 2500lb with driver cars are only getting like 20 1/8 mile passes if thier lucky.. or a few summer seasons of street rodding. But hell ive been wrong before..

You mean like now? LMAO

Its all a matter of who built it. My 5.7L Sierra and my Tahoe LT 5.3L pull my 32ft 5400lb camper all day long and they havent smoked anything but the tires. My sierras 99 4L60E has 150k on it since I built it.

I wasn't going to rub salt in the wound but most know of this truck running 11's and now 10`s on a budget build. I don't know what all in the 4l80 trans but it's been running around for a while at a very high hp level.

Ok boys, im not saying it won't work.. or the 4l80 is a bad trans. I'm just giving my opinion on pairing a Dmax with a 4l80.. the trouble and expence of making it work together out weights the capabilities of the trans.. where as a Allison will plug right in and perform like a champ. But hey, I'm sure you guys have tons of experience with motor swaps and diesel performance..

I personally wouldnt try to reinvent the wheel. Id stick whatever came behind the Duramax in there. The 4L80E (TH400R) is a very strong and capable transmission indeed. But hey, Im sure YOU have tons of experience with motor swaps and diesel performance... (spoken like a true copycat condescending fart hole).
