Mounting Depth on rear speakers

As most of you already know the mounting depth on the back speaker isn't that. I need about a 1/4" more. I know there is metal plate back there. Is it possible to use a hole saw and cut a hole in that plate. I don't think the magnet on my speakers would passed the plate, but that extra space would help. I already have the speakers and was hoping to avoid buying new ones.

What do you think

Nevermind. If any one needs to know it won't work. The power window motor has mount in that area.

I got the speakers to fit though
