So I was set on my exhaust set up... But being a person that is continually researching, I came across a question. Let me start with my original plan for my exhaust. Basically just to swap out the muffler with a Borla Pro XS and resonator delete. Hereʻs my question... Does the muffler have to be center in and offset out or can it be center in and center out? I only ask because Borla has a more aggressive sounding model (XR-1) but they only come in center in center out. Would this fit? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

it doesn't matter where the exit is IF you repipe after the muffler going all the way back to the exit. It only matters IF you keep the factory piping after the muffler going to the back.

Make sense?

You can see all I did was replace the muffler and kept the factory piping. So I had to get a muffler with the off-center output. If it would have been in the center, I would have had to make all new piping and brackets going out the back

Got it!!! So it would be more expensive if I bought the center/center because of the new piping out of the muffler... I think I'm just gonna replace the muffler only!!! Sounds cheaper!!! Thanks NathanJax!!!

I use Magnaflow XL round chambered muffler - center in center out - and had zero issues installing (except for the fact everybody says the stock pipe 3", which it is not). I welded mine in.

On the subject of mufflers, I have noticed that replacing stock dual muffs with Magnaflows on a Crown Vic caused my fuel economy to drop about 1 MPG. Has anyone here seen a loss in MPG from going to a performance muffler?

I just bought an '07 PPV, and am strongly considering switching to a Magnaflow, but not at the cost of fuel economy.

There really isn't a single reason why your MPG would go down other than not being able to keep your foot out of it (we all love the sound).

You're reducing back pressure, removing a significant amount of weight and increasing exhaust velocity thus increasing scavenging of gas from the cylinders. I've read on several forums about guys picking up 1 or 2 mpg by swapping out the muffler; mine however didn't change.

It stands to reason that the 4.6 and the 5.3 are two different animals. I have heard others say the same about the 4.6, but it's an overhead cam engine vs. the 5.3 being pushrod. I will give it some thought. Thanks.
