yup camaro is getting pushed aside again....time for tahoe again can u explain how u do it in 10 min in detail i thould love to know.. also the light has not come back on since i reset it i drove prob 20 miles and nothing but at ideal i still notice a lil surge so i think its at its worse when idaling for a while and that wen mt light come on can that be tru

Maybe in another type of GM vehicle. It takes way longer then that just to remove the intake bolts, and reinstall intake bolts. Then reinstall and torque in correct sequence, and steps.


I really do not see how you can insure a clean gasket removal, or not get anything in the ports with out removing intake from the vehicle.


I maybe give you that you can do intake gaskets with out removing the iintake from the truck. But if you can perform an intake gasket replacement in 10 min, and charge 3 hrs to do it. Then you no why we call dealership garages "stealerships".

In this Auto business it is called "SHOP TIME", every shop does it via ALLDATA or whatever jobber they have for thier system. Why dealers donned the name "stealership", THEY CHARGE FOR EVERY LITTLE THING! Their basic service prices are far more then a regulat mom and pop store as well as a massive retailer. Also Dealers are notorious for UPSELLING. Who ever goes to a dealer for one thing and they try to push/scare/upsell you on others?

In light of your comments which are also all true you would not feel reemed if you had work done that takes 3 hours to perform "correctly", and was done in 10-15min.....probably half ass. Yet charged 3 hours? I still think its a Terex load of bs to be able to do it in 10-15min anyway.





If I came to your house, and gave you an estimate to install 6 windows, and it will take 8 hours. You say go ahead. I installed them in 2 hours, and charged you for 8 hours you would not feel reemed?

It's because of techs like you at the dealerships that I'm on this forum to learn it and do it myself. I know GM over estimates their charging times, but a 3 hour job in 10 minutes... You must do so many cause everyone has to come back to have it fixed 2 or 3 times.

Thanks for confirming my feelings towards having others work on my truck!

Not to disagree with a real mechanic, but I would do the front O2 sensors first. They are responsible for telling the computer how to set the mixure and could easily lead to a lean condition. Plus they are real quick and easy to do. much mor than intake gaskets (even if they really take 10 minutes).

I suppose the dealerships replace the intake gasket first becaue it carries a 3 hour charge (with 10 min of work) where the O2 sensors are probably .5 hour each. After all that would be a text book up sale huh? Sorry, i had to say it.

Plus new O2 sensors could probably increase you mileage (they did for me) so they pat for themselves over time!
