I hit a huge porcupine with my Cobalt a few days before a race. I ended up with a Caliber that had a cvt transmission. I used that in the race. I felt really slow and the car wasn't consistent. I was use to 14 second 1/4 times back then. Caliber wasn't consist in the time trials and ran 20 seconds one run and 21 seconds the next run. I lost in the first round because of this. The car was actually getting slower with each run.

I got a Mazda 3 as a rental for my old Denali. I argued to the moon and back that it wasn't equivalent in value or quality but the insurance wouldn't have it. I took it to the race track... definitely needed new pads to say the least

It's probably because the only vehicles I've ever had in the shop are my work / company vehicles. So the options are either put me in something I can use to that effect, or pay for loss of use to make up for the lost income that vehicle provides.
Luckily in all but one not-at-fault accidents the other guy had a decent insurance company, and the other had no insurance. The only at-fault accident I've had so far (knock on wood), was backing into someone in a parking lot (in a rental truck while mine was in the body shop after being rear ended lol).

My family actually bought a rental and it's a 08 jeep grand Cherokee. It's now at 90k and running strong!
