My denali has 5.25 speaker in the back door how did you put in a 6.5

So crutchfield said my 04 denali had a 6.5 in speaker in the rear door. But there is no way a 6.5 coax will fit in there. it has a huge opening then a plastic piece that is made for a 5.25 has anyone else had this problem and if so what did they do? I might fab up a whole new bracket out of mdf but its going to take some time.
