I'd buy a 'good' salvage yeard Vortec....which year is your truck? You can get longblocks form NAPA for about $1500-$1800, with a full warranty. You use your stock instake, fuel injection,exhaust, serp setup, alt,etc...just longblock.
I bet you'd have over $1500 if you build 383.....

i don't know any shops in texas man but a buddy of mine's engine crapped out on his hoe recently and he gutted the engine bay, hauled it to a shop, and got everything under the hood brand new for right at $2grand installed up here.

I had this same prob with my Tahoe Limited, on mine the heads were warped. You can tell if they are warped or cracked by looking at the oil on your dipstick. if its milky or bubbly...that's your problem too. This is caused by antifreeze getting into your oil. Sometimes you dont get the milky oil or bubbles because you may have burned it off by letting the engine warm up. A second way to know if that's what it is...if your antifreeze reservoir is always running a lil low...and you keep adding antifreeze and it keeps disappearing & sometimes you smell antifreeze but dont see any on the ground.
