This trip to Yankii hill trail was don't in early June. We went 33 miles off road from Central City all the way to Alice, near St. Marys glacier. The terrain varried from easy dirt roads to steep rocky trails, to tippy narrow roads with big drop offs.

All the camping was dispersed, so you just find a good spot and set up. The road to our fist camp spot was probably the most technically difficult. It was very steep with loose dirt and many large rocks. It took some careful maneuvering.

Our first camp site was perfect. It had a huge rock wall that blocked the wind and was perfect for the fire. We were at 9,500' and had incredible views. I built a bed in the back of the truck with plywood, carpet, and four layers of bedding foam. Its soooooooo much more comfortable than sleeping in a tent.

The next morning we decided to take the fun route out of camp.

We made it to Yankee hill on the second day. It was still covered in 2-3' of snow and not many people were getting through. We watched two small, fully built wranglers with 37s make it at about 40mph. My ****** tahoe was just too heavy and got stuck about 2/3 of the way up. I sunk down, smashing a fog light in the process. This whole area is a huge network of 4x4 trails. We had a great map and we were able to find our way around the snow. We got up to 12,500', well above treeline.
We managed to make it over to the st marys glacier area. The trail had one small spot covered in about 3' of snow that required shoveling. After exploring the lake, we came back down and made the stupid decision to take Hamlin Gultch trail. This trail is extremely tight and tippy with big drop-offs. This is not a trail i would recommend for anything as large as a tahoe. There were times where a few inches of tire was hanging off the edge. At a few points, there were larg boulders on the uphill side that meant the truck got super tilted over the damn edge. Holy shit it was sketchy. The photo shows the rocks but dosent do justice to the drop off. We were focused more on not dying than photos at that point.
We survived and found another great campspot. The ground wasn't very flat so I needed to drive two wheels onto some rocks to level everything out.
Overall, the tahoe did great. However, full size trucks are not ideal for the trails out here in Colorado. Most of them are just to tight and I left this weekend with a few dozen Pine stripes.
