Its cheaper to buy new.

Have to disagree here ... spend $1000 in parts and did it in my garage. Still going strong with almost 100K on it and I drive it like I stole it.

I don't see how guys are making it with over 200K on these, they are known to blow apart at 160ish ... they must drive like lil old ladies!!

While looking at pics I am beginning to think this unit may not be original after all. I have no explanation why a pm check of may 5 2008 is written in a spot inaccessible when installed. And I looked at the numbers on the sunshell and the patent number is actually the sunshell know as the beast. More to come I am sure.

LOL I knew it ...

I guess it was time for your tranny to go Sun. I agree, its hard to find a decent reputable shop that you can trust.
Looks like youre on the right track. Good luck with everything.

That sucks. I had the trans on my
OBS Sierra rebuilt and the guys I used gave me a 2 year warranty and did all the work for right at $2000. It started slipping and lost a gear within the first year so they rebuilt again using heavier duty parts and it's still running for the past 5 years, though no longer in my possession. :(

Sucks to hear they're slackin dude... I don't trust tranny shops.
Seems like most Transmission places follow the same guidelines. Quote 'em high, make 'em wait xtra, fix it cheaply.

My friends Bronco wasn't shifting/accelerating right. A "friend of the family's" tranny shop looked @ it and quoted him their bargain price of $1,400 to fix it. While he was parked in my driveway, I got under it and pulled out the VSS in the rear diff. I pulled the piece of metal off of it, reinstalled it, and told him to keep an eye out for more problems/metal pieces(maybe from the ring gear).
10 minutes..... $0.00... been runnin' 6 months now.

If, and when my tranny goes.... I'm not messin' around.... going w/a Bulletproof/TCI, or such and stayin' away from the transmission monkeys.....Homie don't play that no mo'

Mine is a Cummins powered ram with a tuner that gets driven hard, tows heavy, and has 34 inch tires. No one around here drives there rig as hard as me and everyone that knows me will agree!!
I couldn't of been happier with it going out because now I have a good built trans so I can really turn up the power!!!

unknown at this time.
The parts are the killer here. I really wanted to build my own 4l60E with beefy parts. I do know now that it appears it was opened up in '08 to replace the sun shell but it does not look like much else was done. I do not know what brand and quality of parts they will be putting in yet. I am told I will get it tomorrow afternoon.

Hope all starts going smoothly. Good luck. The 4L60E is a stout transmission to last into the 200k range (222k on mine and I drive like hell with it) but anything in this mileage range is bound to fail eventually. Just a good excuse to upgrade (in most cases, I know your situation is a bit different) Again, good luck.

i mean i do take mine muddin but i mud smart if that makes sence the vet offroaders knows what im talking about for instance when rocking the truck out of a sticky situation i dont shift from D to R when the wheels or throttle are matted i wait for the RPMs to get low or wheel speed almost ceases i just dont get it im just gunna go with a 4l80e next but i hope everything works out for you sun hell after this your truck should be BRAND NEW lol
