Been thinking about electric fans myself and I too did not want to pay a million dollars either... I like this option but not sure by the time it is shipped into the states, that there isn't an alternative available state side.

I did find this on evilbay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PROCOMP-DUAL-16-INCH-ELECTRIC-COOLING-RADIATOR-FAN-KIT-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf140402dQQitemZ330465034285QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Are they loud? I have a Spal fan on my race car and its loud as hell. Love it... really pulls some air lemme tell you. The Spal fans come with a gasket that goes between the rad and the fan. The also have some neat mounting brackets available. How easy was it to wire these into the stock configuration and did you how were they activated? Here is Chicago, temps can get pretty brutal (100+ on occasion) so I need a fan that can handle that and not leave me stranded as I do a lot of traveling and hauling with my Yukon. I would imagine that with two 16 inch fans without a shroud... it should cool with no issues.

One word of caution for people thinking about this... MAKE SURE THE FANS YOU PURCHASE ARE PULLING FANS NOT PUSHERS OR THEY WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU!!!

It's funny, I was looking at that EXACT listing after reading this thread. So what all would we need. Those two 16" fans, a controller of some sort, anything else?

Anyone got recommendations for the controller? How do you remove our current mech. fan? Any additional parts needed?

Yes, they are loud. Not annoying loud, but you can hear them running when the truck is off. I originally had them wired up to run straight from the 30A AUX terminal. However when I turned the truck off, they would cycle on and off for a half hour, and they are loud then. So, I rewired the input to the relay to run off the IGN. So when I turn the truck off, the fans turn off. It's way better now. I also ran a single wire through the firewall to use as an active indicator, and a manual switch. the light comes on when the flexalite turns on the fans, and of course when I manually turn them on.

That ebay kit that you found looks to be the exact same fans and mounting hardware as what I bought, just the end 12v plugs are different, but the fans look the same.

there might be a small issue with cooling. The flexalite #280 kit pumps out 5500cfm, while our cheapo dual 16" fans only pump out 5000cfm. IDK if that will make a difference or not. Probably not for me, I live in cooler climate anyways, but for the Southern guys, it may come into play???

I bought my temp controller from Jegs. It was cheap, ~$60 after customs, shipping, currency conversion, etc. And it works well, very easy to setup. It was a flexalite. It has a temp probe that goes through the rad near the upper rad hose.

Our apprentice used a air hammer/chisel with a medium flat blade on the top-left most corner of the fan bolt to knock the fan loose, but then it pretty much spun itself by hand off? Of course he had some fun with me first. He made me take off the four bolts that hold on the fan belt pulley that had nothing to do with the fan at all. So after 45 minutes, when it all fell apart and the fan was still attached, they all had a good laugh. HAHAHA.. I tried to be good natured about it, but I said FU, you guys install this shit. So they had to repair my fun and install the rest of my stuff. I'm server certified, not wrench certified, or if you ask my wife, just certifiably nuts.

With the efans, there was no aditional parts required. Oh maybe some extra wire and connectors, wire loom, etc. Oh and the manual switch and pilot light, etc.

With the underdrive pulleys, yup, I needed a new belt.

I can't believe your chirpen tires...

At will...

wtf am I doing wrong :(

Yup, scared the crap out of me the first time that I turned right from a red light, and blipped the throttle, and ended up sideways over two lanes of traffic. I was like WTF? Seriously, this morning I drove easy, very easy and just stayed with morning stop and go traffic, not accelerating ahead of them, the TPS never went over 10%, an average of 6%..........The average was only 6% to stay with the morning commute traffic! I honestly wouldn't have believed it if i didn't have my scan tool. I still can't believe it.

Ya they did, but that's typical some times. Other times things go through quickly. Summit Racing (who also ships by USPS) stuff gets here in less than 4 days from order date. Its a crap shoot.

It was worth the wait! My truck's new motor finally feels alive. Now's it's behaving like what I thought it should have been from the start. And honestly, I owe it all to this forum. Without you guys, I wouldn't have done a thing to my truck and would have left it bone stock. :hands:

I am going to enjoy!

Thanks for the info and insight to both the fans and the tune. I like the idea of both of those mods and am really contemplating this now for my 99 Yukon but with winter on its way (first full day of fall today)... I think I will be better suited to wait until next spring to add more HP and provide better cooling.

I was poking around on the BB website... what tune exactly did they do for you? What was your reasoning for installing the manual fan activation switch?

No worries, this forum is about helping people.

I just picked the traditional tune with a pcm. At one point there was an inperson tune in TO this summer, but it got canceled. I would have picked a in-person tune, if I could. They give you an online form to fill out, and make your payment. Then sit back and wait! Then enjoy! An example of the order form can be found here (post #6).

I installed the manual switch and pilot light because I was unsure about buying the cheapo fans and not a kit. I honestly didn't know how it would work out. So worst case scenerio, I would be on a highway and the auto temp controller would fail, and the temp gauge would climb - out 200kms from civilization (remember I live in Northern Ontario where towns are at least a three hour drive apart, if not further.), So I wanted a safety net, and a pilot light so I could monitor it's performance too, again because I really didn't know how it would go. I may have pissed $180 away on something that doesn't work, who knows. I was pleasently surprised when everything worked like a charm!

And then I posted about it in case someone else was thinking of doing cheapo efans, underdrive pulleys and BBTune!

Thanks again for the info... really got me thinking about this BB Tune and the fans. Not sure about the pulleys though. I don't really want to slow my alternator or water pump down. Great info from great people on a great site!!!

Thanks again you may have just given BB a new customer in the super near future!

So this weekend I went on a bit of a road trip, 1500kms(932 miles).
It's my first one since THIS ROAD TRIP and these goodies being installed.

So I got a chance to compare the truck on long drives, before mods and after mods.

I'm so happy with these mods! I like the shift points! I like the umph going up hills! I like the umph when passing! I like everything about doing these. This road trip was so much better/fun driving than the older trip. I even got better fuel economy!

I would say to anybody who is sitting on the fence about doing these three mods, consider this. In ~60,000kms(~37,000miles) I willl have saved enough $$$ in gas to have payed for these mods. That will take me about 1.5 years. I've got less than one year to go before these mods payed for themselves and start making me money. If your keeping your truck for a long time, then this is a good investment.

And it's a whole lot of fun to drive.

I did E-fans, UD Pulleys and BB Tune all at the same time.
I was getting ~12mpg before, and now I'm seeing 15mpg. Worse when I had a bad motor.

I'm only dreaming about hitting your 18+ mpg.
