I remember back in 01 there was a TSB on the oil cooler cracking/leaking. After shut down there would be pressure in the radiator that would push coolant back into the oil. Not real sure how much oil pressure is in the cooler when running? Seems like it would have started leaking way before now though.

You would think. But, strange things happen all the time. And it could just be coincidence that it finally let go after a non-related repair.

Well, I pulled the motor and she's dirrrty.
Greasy carbon build up throughout the intake manifold into the heads and overall just covered in oil residue. Looks like the oil pressure switch was leaking for awhile. I had to change valve. Cover gaskets when I got the rig, cause the PO had let it go apparently for some time.

Pulled the pan and all four corners where I put some rtv were still intact. Gasket looked good.

Upon further reflection on the situation, I think maybe the way to expain it is, after changing oil pickup O-ring. The oil pressure increased enough to corrupt an already weak oil cooler.

That's the only way I can explain the coincidental timing of the coolant mixing with oil right after I changed that ORing.

All eight spark plugs were identical and perfect. And as I previously stated the thing ran perfect. I am not
Suspecting a head gasket or cracked block.

And if it was either a head gasket or cracked block that won't affect me moving forward with a different motor.

New radiator from O'reilly's is $262.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Unless you guys have different ideas, Lol

Thanks again for the help!

From personal experience and someone that had an oriellys radiator blow the transmission cooler....that then flooded the transmission with coolant. Use at your own risk. They may have resolved the issue by now as I believe there was a class action suit, but it was a known problem. Our local store even took care of it internally. They provided the new 4l80e and a GM radiator and paid for a local shop to flush the block of the strawberry milkshake, and install the new radiator and trans.
