I've got a 2001 Tahoe LT
5.3, 4sp auto 4wd (2wd/4h/4l buttons)
fairly sure it's got the 3.73:1 axles (70mph about 2K rpm)

I've heard that some gm trucks have "Electronic Locking Rear Diff"

was this available on my truck?
how would I know if I've got it?
shouldn't there be a button to activate it?

if it's got a "locker" wouldn't that mean it's an "Open Diff" when it;s unlocked (no limmited slip)

my friend found this

This is straight from the manufacturer not some misinformed hillbilly on the interwebz.

Mechanical Locking Differentials
The Eaton mechanical locking differentials were the first to be offered as an option to pickup drivers and today it is known around the world simply by the GM option code G80. This automatic unit, avai...lable as standard and optional equipment for rear drive and 4-wheel drive vehicles, makes traction problems a thing of the past. The Locker makes towing large boats and campers a breeze. Be sure to ask your dealer if your vehicle has an Eaton locking differential.

dosn't say anything about an "electronic" locker

To the best of my knowledge, I don't think electronic lockers were available on our trucks. The "premium" diff available for us was the G80 mechanical limited slip diff.
