John I am in the process of doing this as well. My sierra doesn't have bose. I have a oem nav unit with bose. I tried to install it and have the dealer reprogram it and it still didnt work. I exchanged it for a non bose w/o the dvd option and it was a no go as well. So I got my bose dvd unit back and actually sent it to a guy in california who claims he can program it to work properly, steering wheel controls, xm, bluetooth, onstar, camera, etc. I just sent it off today. He told me he has a bench tester for the denso units and can program it to your vin. I had to send him my vin and the rpo codes in the glove box. I just sent it today so I should have it back in a week. He also told me that he is able to make any unit work in any vehicle, that this is his business and has spent countless hours with denso to get properly trained to do this and that the techs at the dealership are not trained to do this extensive reprogramming. Sorry for the long post, I will update this as soon as I get it back. Oh yeah he charges 100 bucks plus shipping.
I have an 07 Tahoe LT (Non Bose) I got a Nav DVD Unit from car-part.com, got the VSS wire- could not hook it up to Onstar (could not find unit), I got a GPS Antenna, installed the entire unit, paid $100 to program at dealer. Radio works, but chimes are silent, and sound is super low. I am probably just going to sell package on Ebay and go aftermarket...
