I cut mine open to possibly repair it , but I only did so AFTER I already bought a new light. To me, it wasn't worth the trouble of fixing. Mainly because the light itself was badly faded and oxidized from the sun over all these years, plus considering the fact that I found a brand new light on Amazon for $42 shipped, it was a no brainer.
Now had my light been in like new shape , and/or anew light cost well over $100, then I would have possibly went through the trouble if repairing it.
