Ok, so when an engine is crank, crank, crank but not turning over (running) your missing either spark or fuel.
Therefore intermittenly it is missing one of the two components for the motor to combust and run.
It just happens out of nowhere. Picks and chooses weather it wants to combust instantly or a after a few cranks (like a dead battery) or on two occassions not at all. Just needs to sit and then start right up.

I never seen symptons of a starter spinning not fast enough at certain points and times.
Just the CLUNK, CLUNK, CLUNK. or crank crank and clunk.
I just baffled, I think I am giving to much credit to the *****. Who puts plastic inside metal that conducts heat? So why not a starter fail at 50k?
The car will sit overnight when its optimally cold and conduct battery like symptoms. So as far as the starter getting hot and needing to cool down in order to start is not an issue.
We can rule that ONE out...how many more to go?
