But the piston can be at the top on the exhaust stroke instead of the compression stroke. Do the finger on the hole to verify the compression stroke. Then make sure the rotor is pointing at #1 cylinder. On the exhaust stroke the piston, #1< will be at the top but the exhaust valve would be open and therefore no compression.

Shouldn't it at least spark even if I was 180 off?

I have verified grounds on engine block behind lower radiator hose. 1 cable to battery, 1 to ignition portion of wiring harness.
Ground at thermostat is good with 1 wire.
Ground next to battery tray is good with 2 wires.

I am just saying that the basics need to be in place and if the distributor is dropped in wrong, on exhaust stroke, then re do it and continue from there.

I am doing your steps now.

ICM fixes no spark. Now I have to get timing right.
It ran for 3 mins or so roughly before I shut it off. Turning distributor did not help enough.

Got it running roughly, stalls after a couple of minutes.
Getting these codes now.

Went to triple check ignition ground (looks like it all goes down by the crank sensor) and it snapped.

Going to repair the ground wire this evening, picked up a crank sensor also.

Yes, turns out that checking and rechecking the basics may well have saved you. When you get it going again please get a vacuum reading for another basics double check.

You may need the TechII Tool to set timing.
