I got a 2000 GMC Yukon SLT 5.3 L 4x4.

My problem is that it wont turn over. I ahve replaced the alternator, battery, and starter. When I replaced the starter it was goin perfect. Then I let it sit for a few hours now wont even turn over. When I turn the key battery is fine and I hear the starter run. It kind seems like to my that the starter is not catching the flywheel. I think there is a worn portion on the flywheel. Any takers on my idea?

Also if anyone else thinks the same. How can I check to see if the flywheel is worn? Is there any type of access point on the bottom I can take off to look at it?

Please let me know and thanks in advance.

Could be a faulty starter....happened to me on my 99 Denali a few years back...Luckily there was a warranty on it and oreilly took it back and gave me a new one.

I dont think thats it because I can hear it and it was bench tested for a little before it was put on. I could try and have it checked again.

Well, the reason I say that is because when it happened to me I thought my flywheel actually broke cuz I turned it and heard big 'bang' then the starter just spun. So I could here it spin when I turned the key but it was obvious that the starter and the flywheel were not engaging. It surprised me when it turned out to be the starter...and I'd just put a new one in:eek:

Always possible that this is not the case for you but could be a possibility

You should be able to see the flywheel (I would imagine). Slide under there and check it out.

IIRC at the forward part of the bell transmission housing, on the bottom, there are two check holes with metal caps on them. Pull off the bigger one and you can see the bottom part of the flywheel and see if at least that section has missing teeth.

Also a friend pointed out to me to try and replace the Neutral Safety Switch. Not sure the exact placement of it but i know its on the tranny. Also so I have to set it in any way to work properly?

If the starter is spinning then it isnt the neutral safety switch. Lets back up: when the key is in the crank mode you can hear the starter spinning? If so then the bendix is bad on the starter which isnt allowing it to engage. If not trying to crank check all electrical connections. Starter relay, fusible link if any. If all that checks good remove the starter and bench test it. Was it a new or reman unit? I always use AC Delco replacement parts when possible. Being stranded by savings a few bucks sucks.
