Need opinions on parts Truck needs some TLC - new parts 1/28/12

Well I have been scanning the forums for the past few hours and the net and have mixed feelings about everything at this point.

96 Tahoe 4WD 4Dr - 216K miles - All original minus some tune up parts

First off I need brakes extremely badly - I have owned the truck for a short amount of time and its been two years since a brake job and they actually just started grinding :emotions122:

I was looking into a combo from Summit - Power Stop K1990 - truck does tow, and there can be some heavy braking - or possibly just some slotted/drilled rotors and some premium pads? Another thing I was wondering, I have single piston calipers, can I upgrade to a dual piston from another year/model?

Next to come is the suspension - its sagging quite a bit, but the truck is completely stock from the factory and could use a perk up - What brands tend to be good? And look at both spring and shock?

Replaced plugs with AC Delco Iridiums, replaced wires with Taylor 8MM wires and tried replacing the cap and rotor but the truck started bucking so put the original parts back on for now

and also a list of other parts to throw at her... the fuel pump is newer - Has a lifetime warranty which has been used once, but keeps getting renewed

Could use some wheel bearings thats for sure, they howl a little... but anyways a list of most important to least - Starting with brakes of course, want to get them done next weekend - all the way around if possible, I have drums but not sure if 10" or 11"

unknown at this time.
Dump that brake setup right now. It is junk.

Use Hawk HB332P.654 for pads and Powerslot cyro rotors 126.66009CSL for left and 126.66009CSR for right. They are just slotted and are more then enough to work properly. I would not waste time on drilled rotors. Be absolutely sure you follow break in procedures for the hawk pads and after wards avoid heavy braking for 400 miles. I have personally stuck with stock calipers because a hydra-boost upgrade is much more effective. I just have not done it yet.

If the front sags you could try cranking the t-bars. For the rear the best option is new spring packs but since you may be dragging the rear with tongue weight I would suggest these. http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/album.php?albumid=1566&pictureid=12271

As for shocks it depends on your ride preferences. I personally use Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks here. http://store.edelbrock.com/shockabsorbers-2.aspx
Shocks are so difficult to rate tho. Might even want to try adjustable Ranchos.

Unless you want to modify your ignition sytem 41-993 for plugs,

  • ACDelco D329A Distributor Cap by ACDelco $27.86
  • ACDelco D465 Distributor/Ignition Rotor by ACDelco $8.04
  • ACDelco 9718Q Spark Plug Wire Kit by ACDelco $48.27

Use MOOG Part # 515024 for your front hub/bearing assemblies available from rockauto.

Everything else should be available from Amazon.

What specific concerns you got?

Well, I am thinking all the ball joints and numerous other parts in the front end need to be replaced. The front will wobble after a bump at 45... no more no less...

and I was reading before... I think its the 99-06? They have dual piston calipers, will those bolt up to my 96?

Well today was an EXTREMELY busy day!
New brakes - Rotors/Pads/Calipers up front (still need to do the back)
My driver's side door handle has been missing for like 5 months now - Just put a new one on and the door opens again from the inside (had to roll my window down every time)
Passenger side window motor replaced (the original rollers had deteriorated and the window was cocked - constant whistle for the last 3 months) and the passenger side actuator had been broken off somehow, rigged it up and now all four doors lock/unlock with the touch of a button
new plugs and wires put on
honestly with the door handle and window working again - it feels like a brand new truck to me!
Things still sitting around to be put on -
A/C condenser
heater core
headers
exhaust
fuel filter

Other problems that I found on my truck as of today -
Well its really only one, the rear window wiper hits the outside passes completely but in the middle it only hits on the middle of the blade, the top and bottom miss - it is a new blade, maybe just a ****** one?
