Needing to replace brake pads- Are the z36 overkill if you don't really tow?

I just put new brakes on my 2016 Tahoe. The original rear brakes lasted 185K miles. The front brakes lasted 130K miles. Considering I do A LOT of stop and go driving in NYC [bqe-cross bronx expressway gowanus expressway plus other roads for months at a time I would say the AC Delco rotors and pads held up extremely well so I just stayed with them. In South Florida I-95 is a parking lot half of the time.

If fade is an issue, bigger brakes or different pads can make a difference. But if you are just driving normally, tires and the ABS system is what is really going to control stopping distance.

I've been running z36 for several years. Stopping performance is improved over stock but they do wear significantly faster. I originally switched after warping two sets of front rotors and having brake fade through mountain driving and the drilled and slotted rotors have not warped or faded due to heat. The rotors do wear faster than stock blank discs. Softer and faster wear generally equates to better stopping at the expense of durability and dust. You have to decide what is important personally.

the metal used in the rotors is the same as oem, it's not softer, thinner or anything else. pads are a different story....
the powerstop rotors I have on my truck are 5 years old and still as good as day 1, they have never needed to be turned (and yes contrary to popular belief drilled/slotted rotors can be turned) I drive the literal piss out of it too.

I only drive the Turnpike.... unless I drive north from West Palm.
